Humane Society of Wilkes - Dogs at the Shelter

The Humane Society of Wilkes does not own or run the Wilkes County Animal Shelter.

At the time they were posted, these dogs were available for adoption at Wilkes County Animal Shelter at 408 Call Street, Wilkesboro, NC, 336-903-7688. If you are interested in a particular dog you see on this page, please call the shelter to determine if it is still there before you go.  If you are looking for a dog that may have been turned in as a stray, please visit or call the shelter regularly. This webpage does not post photographs of the stray dogs being held in quarantine. We recommend that you also check the Wilkes County NC Lost and Found Pets page on Facebook.

Shelter Adoption Information

The shelter's hours of operation are 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 10:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday. The adoption fee is $95.00 for dogs under 50 pounds and $105 for dogs 50 pounds and over. $50.00 if the dog is already spayed or neutered.

This fee pays for the following:

  1. Physical examination
  2. A check for worms and routine deworming for hookworms and roundworms
  3. The first in a series of canine distemper and parvovirus vaccines
  4. Rabies vaccine at 4 months
  5. Spay or Neuter at 4-6 months

Other services that are recommended, such as a heartworm test and booster vaccinations for distemper and parvovirus, should be discussed with your veterinarian at the first visit.
